Strengthening Diplomatic Ties: Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed's Working Visit to Germany.

In a significant diplomatic move, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, recently paid a working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany. The visit, undertaken on Tuesday, 20th February 2024, aimed at fortifying the existing relations of friendship and the comprehensive strategic partnership between the UAE and Germany.

The discussions during the visit covered a spectrum of topics, including files of common interest and the latest developments in the Middle East, as well as regional and international affairs. Sheikh Abdullah engaged in crucial meetings with key German figures, such as Jens Plötner, Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to the German Federal Chancellor, and a delegation from the Foreign Affairs Committee in the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag), led by Michael Roth, Chairman of the Committee.

The core focus of these meetings was the UAE-German comprehensive strategic partnership, with both sides exploring ways to deepen bilateral cooperation across various sectors. Sheikh Abdullah expressed pride in the distinguished friendship relations between the two nations, underlining the strong and developed foundation built on understanding, cooperation, mutual respect, and common interests.

A significant aspect of the discussions involved Sheikh Abdullah's meeting with Annalena Baerbock, the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany. The leaders delved into cooperation relations and comprehensive strategic partnership, seeking avenues to further develop and support the development goals of both countries.

Addressing the current developments in the region, particularly the crisis in the Gaza Strip, Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the importance of strengthening regional and international efforts to achieve a sustainable ceasefire and provide urgent humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people. He reiterated the UAE's commitment to collaborating with the international community to end extremism and violence in the region while ensuring protection for all civilians.

Furthermore, Sheikh Abdullah stressed the need to avoid escalating the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and highlighted the importance of global efforts to respond to the humanitarian conditions faced by the Palestinian people. His renewed emphasis on finding a stern political solution echoed the aspiration for comprehensive peace based on the "two-state solution," aiming for security, stability, development, and prosperity in the region.

The working visit also included discussions on economic relations between the UAE and Germany. Sheikh Abdullah's meeting with Dr. Robert Habeck, Vice-Chancellor and German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, focused on enhancing economic ties within the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership.

Additionally, Sheikh Abdullah engaged with German businessmen and CEOs of companies, exploring opportunities for cooperation in the fields of economy and the environment. These discussions aimed at establishing investment partnerships that would support development plans and programs in both countries.

The visit also had a human touch, with Sheikh Abdullah hosting a reception for Emirati students studying in Germany, as well as Emiratis receiving treatment in the country, and Germans who have lived in the UAE. The ceremony highlighted Sheikh Abdullah's commitment to providing support and care for students during their study period at German educational institutions.

In attendance were key figures including Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Head of International Affairs Office at the Presidential Court; Saeed Mubarak Al Hajri, Assistant Minister for Economic and Commercial Affairs, and Ahmed Alattar, UAE Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany.

This working visit underscored the UAE's dedication to fostering international relations, promoting peace, and enhancing cooperation across various sectors. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed's diplomatic efforts contribute to building bridges between nations, ensuring a brighter and more collaborative future.
